The Dream!

It was probably circa 1975 when I met up with Greg Carpenter!  We were great friends. He turned me on to the idea of pursuing "another" dream.  The idea he awoke in me was to travel the continent in search of great places and great people across America!  Somewhere around 1980 he brought me a video that was entitled Coaches across America which spotlighted some folks (many of them) travelling the West Coast in a caravan of beautiful MotorCoaches and each family (including the kids) each in their own coach.  The most exciting portion of the video was the footage taken from a helicopter of the Caravan of MotorCoaches crossing the Golden Gate Bridge. I 'll bet that piece alone was 10 minutes long. Boy was I excited.   I knew right then and there that someday I would have a COACH!

Greg S. Carpenter died on his 50th birthday in July of 2000!

This story is about living, living The DREAM!  The dream he spun for me lives on!  This site is dedicated to his memory!  Greg Carpenter was a true American Hero!  He taught that Freedom was worth fighting for.  It takes three things to be a Free Man, he told me!  TIME, MONEY and a VISION for your future.   Many people have TIME but no MONEY.  Many people have MONEY but no TIME. And for those who have both TIME and MONEY,  what good is it without a VISION?  Most people have lost their VISION by the time they turn 30 years old!  Find for yourself a VISION. A VISION so big, a DREAM so powerful that you just can't let it go. NO MATTER WHAT!  Figure out what that DREAM is and put a picture of it on your "fridge".  I walked into a local Greyhound Bus terminal some 10 years ago and saw an MCI Bus Bank.  I purchased it for $5.00 and placed it on my desk in my office.  At one point, I even used my Computer to make paper cutouts and labeled the bus bank with a slogan on the sides of the bus that said.... "Coaching Across America".  On the roof of the bus bank there was... "the CARRIER FAMILY" and "from AUBURN, MAINE USA".  The back upper panel of the bus bank said... "TIME, MONEY and a VISION" "I'm FREE!

Thank You Greg,  I hope you enjoy this site!

So although the DREAM is decades old,  the coming together of the dream probably started around 1996 when we broke ground for the Bus Barn.  It took me 6 years to build it.  I had promised myself that I would not get the bus until the Barn was complete.  We poured the last yard of concrete floor in May of 2002.  The Barn was ready!  Now,  come wind or rain or snow or sleet we can work on the bus at our convenience.  The bus project is slated to be a 3 year conversion.  Of course, if I get done sooner, that's OK too.  Ultimately, Kathy and I want to travel the continent for three years.   I figure that we will traverse the continent 12 times through Canada and the US and maybe Mexico (depending of the political events in that country at the time we anticipate going).  You probably remember a program that ran on CBS for years called "On the road again" with Charles Kuralt.  Kuralt drove across American and stopped everywhere and talked with everyone he met up with.  Some of those stories aired on CBS.  It was rather interesting to see how diverse the people of America are.   Maybe one of the Networks will pick up this story and ask us to film "On the road AGAIN II " with Guy and Kathleen Carrier. Oh Well!
